Update on Fretbow's Fiddle course for beginners
The first video of this course will be available by the end of February, and at the moment, I am just about on schedule. There will be 3 videos in all with accompanying PDF files. Video One is free and the remaining two video lessons will be available through Fretbow's online music store at a modest cost - prices to be confirmed.
I am really excited about releasing at long last some of my teaching material for the fiddle. I first started my teaching business Fret and Bow Music just over 20 years ago, but this is the first time I have released any lessons online for the Fiddle. Despite the name I have traded under, not once have I released anything specifically for bowed instruments, until now!
I started to self-teach myself the fiddle when I was around 15 years of age. The trouble about trying to figure things out for yourself is that you make a lot of mistakes along the way and some of these can be harmful and habit-forming if unchecked. Fortunately, I have been exposed to many players who have been like mentors to me and have graciously given their time to share their music and playing technique. With their help I was able to improve my own playing beyond recognition. It is to all those who have helped me along the way that I dedicate this latest project to.
Knowing how difficult it is for a beginner to start out from scratch in learning the fiddle I have found a sense of purpose in putting together "Fretbow's Fiddle Course for Beginners". I hope so much that this course will be a benefit to anyone out there who is struggling to get to grips with the Fiddle. It is the most demanding to learn out of all stringed instruments, but once the basics have been mastered, it becomes much easier. Having played stringed instruments for many years now, I can tell you it is the Fiddle that I favour above all others for any impromptu music sessions with other musicians whom I might be meeting for the first time. The Fiddle gives me total freedom to express myself.
